Well I have been BUSY....busy postcarding the town and e-mailing so many people, making new friends in the pet industry world and more! It's really been fun, and it's been something i've wanted to get involved with for a long time...funny how it took Nathan getting in a bad accident coupled with me losing my full time job of 13 years to drive me to do this kind of thing.
Since I've been out talking to so many people about the event though, I've realized that I'm getting a lot of the same question (perhaps for next year's event i will spell things out a bit more on the invite), but the blog works, so if you have a question, i hope you're reading this!
First, you do not have to come at 1pm and leave at 7pm...not by all means. 1-7pm is just the length of the whole event. Vendors will be selling the whole time, but one special vendor is unable to make it until around 4:30 or 5pm because she'll be with her Chi meetup group, so there's a bonus in staying a bit later so you can see her amazing stuff...most of which she makes herself. You really should plan to be there (and join in) the runway show at 3:30pm though because that will seriously be the most fun of the day! Also, just before the runway show, there will be a dog behavior specialist giving a demonstration.
The event is free but there is a suggested donation of $5 since this is also a fundraiser and the money will also go toward some of the expenses of the event. you'll also get a raffle ticket & be able to sign up to be in the show with your dog. here are the prizes you can win:
1st prize: an on location photo shoot with your dog or dogs with a professional photographer.
2nd prize: a pendant necklace from Caja Jewelry
3rd prize: a personal pet website
raffle prizes range from small dog snowshoes, dog training books, cd's, self serve dog washes at an east village dog spa and several others.
There will be music throughout the afternoon, drinks and Nathan's hotdogs (for you or the dogs) for sale for cheap and very important:...the building and the photo studio space are accessible.
This is a building that houses many art galleries too, which are open on Saturdays, so you can come into our event, go check out galleries on other floors and then pop back up for the runway show or whatever. I'll be on the door most of the time and we've got lots of helpers, coat racks so you can be comfortable and at night the view is really cool BTW, so being there after 5pm when it gets dark may be worth it too.
You can shop, mix & mingle with other dog owners, and catch some entertainment here, so running off quickly can certainly happen, but you may want to be able to hang out a bit too and not double book yourself....i really want this to be a different kind of event, but it'll be the people who make it into that. Hope you'll dress up your dog and maybe even yourself and join in the fun!
Oh, last frequently asked question: You do not have to dress up along with your dog to win in the runway show, but you do get one extra bonus point for that. You'll be judged on creativity, effort, the dog's fashion or costume & poise (in other words...did the dog run away from you on the runway?) Finally...larger dogs are welcome, but i do see this mainly as a small dog event. Use your best judgment...you know your dog. All dogs will need to be on leashes or in their owners arms.
Thanks and i hope to see you on Saturday afternoon!! --Carolyn (and Nathan will be there too of course. he is doing really well!! although his final x-rays are in another 10 days).
